HANOI — ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Convene First Day of 6th ADGSOM

Hanoi, Vietnam — January 12, 2026 — Senior digital officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gathered in Hanoi on Monday to launch the 6th ASEAN Digital Senior Officials' Meeting (ADGSOM), kicking off a week of high-level digital cooperation ahead of the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting (ADGMIN)

The meeting, hosted by the Government of Vietnam, brings together senior representatives from all 10 ASEAN member states alongside the ASEAN Secretariat to review progress, exchange policy insights, and prepare key recommendations for ministerial deliberations later in the week.

Opening Sessions Focus on Digital Cooperation and Project Implementation

The first day started with preparatory working sessions where senior officials and technical delegates discussed the implementation status of ASEAN's digital transformation initiatives. Delegates shared updates on 10 priority projects under the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 (ADM2025), highlighting regional progress and challenges ahead.

During these sessions, representatives noted that 60 out of 82 key ADM2025 projects have been completed, with the remainder actively under implementation and expected to conclude soon. These achievements form the basis for deeper cooperation and reporting at the ministerial level.

Building Momentum for ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030

Participants reaffirmed the need to sustain ASEAN's digital transformation momentum as the region transitions into a new strategic phase. Beyond reviewing current projects, senior officials emphasized alignment with the forthcoming ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030 (ADM2030), which will guide future cooperation on data, AI, innovation and smart technologies.

Preparations Underway for Ministerial Meetings

The ADGSOM serves as a preparatory forum for the ADGMIN, which officially opens later this week with ministers and dialogue partners joining discussions on expanding digital cooperation, governance, and inclusive digital economies. The week's agenda also includes ministerial dialogues, thematic discussions with international partners, and the ASEAN Digital Awards ceremony.

Vietnam, as host and chair of ADGSOM this year, stressed its commitment to advancing a people-centric and sustainable ASEAN digital ecosystem that benefits both citizens and businesses across the region.
